A dark carved wood and brass rotary dial telephone — the carved relief applied to the dark hardwood body gives this piece the weight and visual complexity of a significant artisan object. The carving creates genuine surface three-dimensionality, catching and casting shadow across the decorative motifs in a way that etched or painted surfaces cannot match. Brass hardware and rotary dial provide the functional telephone detail. At approximately 10" on its carved wood base it has clear desk presence and considerable close-inspection interest. The most architecturally substantial piece in the tabletop telephone range, and the strongest argument for a premium retail price in the 9" tier.
